Nature in Public Decision-Making
6th international SELINA workshop in Trento

How can biodiversity and ecosystem knowledge support more sustainable cities and territories?

An article just published in UniTrentoMag explores this question through the lens of the SELINA project (Science for Evidence-based and sustainabLe decIsions about NAture), funded by the EU Horizon Europe programme.

As part of SELINA, our PLANES Lab coordinates the work on Demonstration Projects in the public sector -seven realworld case studies across Europe that show how spatial data, indicators, and ecosystem service models can inform evidence-based planning and policy.

Last week, we hosted the 6th international SELINA workshop in Trento, bringing together over 70 participants from research institutions, public authorities, and the European Commission. We discussed how to bridge science and policy, co-develop guidance for decision-makers, and explore how nature-based knowledge can shape urban greening plans and biodiversity strategies.

The article offers a great overview of the project’s goals, the workshop discussions, and the transformative potential of integrating nature into public decisions.
