On 1 October 2024, the Italian Community of Practice held its second meeting, bringing together 25 participants to explore innovative best practices and transformative case studies (“seeds of change”) identified through a recent questionnaire.

The meeting opened with an introduction to its objectives, followed by a comprehensive overview of the collected practices. These were categorized into thematic groups to highlight synergies, common challenges, and innovative approaches, fostering a deeper understanding of how different initiatives contribute to systemic change.

Participants then engaged in thematic breakout sessions, tailored to their interests, focusing on:

  • Capacity building and participatory design to support decision-making processes,
  • Integration of biodiversity and ecosystem services into territorial planning,
  • Actions and strategies for biodiversity protection and enhancement.
Within each session, speakers presented selected best practices, emphasizing their transformative potential. Discussions centered on how these initiatives differ from conventional approaches, the key leverage points for achieving impactful outcomes, considerations for long-term sustainability, and the integration of new knowledge, disciplines, and stakeholders into decision-making processes.

The meeting concluded with an open call for additional best practices, aiming to expand the collection of transformative examples for discussion in a third meeting scheduled before the end of the year.
